WMG - Canada U21 - Day 1

The Canada Under-21 Team for the 2008 World Mind Games is Tristan Wood, Malcolm McColl, Gordon Zind, Aled Iaboni, John Maguire, Ethan Macauly and npc Bryan Maksymetz.

The team did some early touring of Beijing and had a practise match against Australia. A couple of the team members are very new to bridge at this level so it was great to give them an intro to bridge at this level - bidding boxes and screens. They are also using bridgemates so all results are entered and scored automatically - a paperless competition. Nader Hanna, captain of the U-26 team and I spent the first day at the Summer Palace, while the rest of the team went to Silk Market and did some shopping. Pictures to follow once I figure out how to download them from my camera to the laptop.

The opening ceremonies were wonderful, and included over 140 countries and 3000 competitors. There was a one hour show of interpretive dance with lovely classical music and cirque-de-soleil type costumes, set and amazing lighting. Now on to the games!
